Instructions for Registering on BIRD
If you are using BIRD to register for the first time, we have provided the BIRD registration worksheet (PDF) for your convenience.
BIRD will recognize current or new UB students. If you left UB and did not file an official Leave of Absence, BIRD will refuse your access to registration because you are no longer a student. (If you wish to enroll at UB again, you will need to contact either Undergraduate Admissions, or the Graduate department with which you last affiliated.) And, if you are a new undergraduate student, you will automatically have a checkstop placed on your record to prevent you from registering until you have been advised.
Once you select “Registration Drop/Add” from the main BIRD menu and successfully pass the security check, you will be asked to select one of the following menu items:
| 1 | Registration Drop/Add |
| 3 | Hear your Detailed Schedule Card (includes each course’s building, room, day, time) |
| 4 | Hear your Initial Registration Appointment Window (undergrads only) |
| 2 | Return to the Main BIRD Menu |
| 7 | End this Session |
If you are an undergraduate student who does not have an Approved Major, you will be asked to state your Intended Major on your first call each semester. There is a list of academic majors (and the necessary 8-digit code) in every Undergraduate Class Schedule.
The rest of your first call to BIRD will consist of your interactively registering the courses on your worksheet one at a time. It is important that you press 7 when you have finished registering so that a short list of your registered courses can be read to you (or press 3 for a detailed list). Avoid costly mistakes and complex problems by always knowing your most current schedule. You may call BIRD simply to request that your (short or detailed) schedule be read to you. And, as soon as you have your UB computer account, you can log on to MyUB and view or print your schedule.
You can also move around BIRD while on the phone in Registration by using one of the Touchtone Key Pad Registration Codes. They act like shortcuts to move you to other registration menu functions.
If you think you need to talk to us about your registration session (or BIRD says “You need assistance” and then politely hangs up on you), call a person Monday-Friday from 8:30 - 5:00 at (716) 645-2450 or toll free at 1-866-838-7257 and we’ll help you through your interaction with BIRD.
