Certification Services

The Student Response Center is the University office authorized to officially verify enrollment and degree information for all current and former UB students except for those in the Medical, Dental, or Law schools (Current or former students in those schools: contact your respective registrar's office for certification services).

Please note: If you owe money to the University (Student Accounts, Parking & Transportation, library fines or breakage fees) this information cannot be released.

Enrollment Status at UB

  • Health Insurance Coverage (usually on your family's plan)
  • Your family's health insurance provider will send you a form to be completed by our office. Certain health insurance providers will not accept certification unless it is on their form; check with the provider if you are required to send proof of enrollment.  If your insurance provider does not provide one, here is a request form for a letter of enrollment or degree verification.
  • Loan Deferment
  • Your loan agency or bank will send you either an "Out-of-School Notice" or an "In-School Deferment" form.   Complete the sections noted and sign where indicated.  If you do not have the form, contact your loan agency or their website.  These agencies typically do not accept certification letters by way of fax.  The campus seal is a raised imprint that cannot be faxed to be considered official.
  • UB participates in current semester enrollment verification via the National Student Clearinghouse for all federal loans except Perkins Loans.
  • Some participating lenders are NYS Higher Education Services Corporation, SallieMae ServicingACS Education Services, Federal Direct Student Loan Program, Citibank Student Loan Corporation, HSBC Bank.
  •  Scholarship or Other Purposes
  • For reasons other than the above where requests for enrollment status is required, you may complete and return the request form for a letter of enrollment or degree verification.

Degrees Awarded at UB

  • These are generally done either by telephone or in writing from the employer. We will verify the type of degree (e.g. B.S., M.A.), your major, and the month and date of the conferral. No other information will be released without a signed release from you (the student).
