Graduate Degree Application and Conferral

Graduate students pursuing an Ed.M., Ed.D., MLS, MBA, PharmD., MSW, or DPT should follow the instructions below to establish degree candidacy.

If you are pursuing any other graduate degree, you must instead submit an Application to Candidacy to The Graduate School in order to establish degree candidacy. Please refer to the Graduate School’s website for complete details and deadlines dates.

All graduate students in the programs noted above must formally notify the Student Response Center of their intention to graduate by filing an Application for Degree form at the beginning of their final semester of enrollment at UB.

When to Apply

Deadlines
If you plan to graduate on: File your application by:
June 1 previous February 1
September 1 previous July 1
February 1 previous October 1

How to Apply

Complete the Application for Degree Form (PDF) and return it to the Student Response Center in 232 Capen. (Forms are also available in the Student Response Center)

What Happens When You Apply for Degree Conferral

  • Your degree status can be viewed in My Grades on MyUB (UBit name and password required).
  • Degree audit mails to your local address a letter which says one of two things:
  • acknowledges receipt of your application and declares that your general (non-program) university requirements are o.k. or
  • describes which of your general (non-program) university requirements have not been met [e.g. minimum graduate QPA below 3.0, non-UB bachelor’s degree transcript missing, etc.]
  • Degree Audit will notify your graduate department of your intention to graduate for the conferral date which you indicated to us.
  • Your graduate school or department will inform us if you have met all program requirements for your degree
  • If you have met both the university requirements and your graduate program requirements, your degree will be conferred on or after the conferral date (June 1, September 1, or February 1). Your diploma will be mailed to you within 6 weeks to the address you specified on your degree application
  • If you have not met either the university requirements or some part of your graduate program requirements, you will be notified that you did not graduate and we will ask you to tell us your new future conferral date.
