About the “S” checkstop/hold...
“S” checkstops/holds are placed on student records when undergraduate students no longer meet the academic standards required for continuing at UB. Details of UB’s academic standards policy are in the Undergraduate Catalog at http://undergrad-catalog.buffalo.edu/policies/grading/academicreview.shtml
“S” checkstops/holds prevent registration for fall and spring semesters; however, “S” checkstops/holds do NOT prevent summer registration.
FAQs
Question: I’m a current student at UB, but I just noticed my "S" checkstop/hold. What should I do?
Answer: Get some additional information and follow the instructions at http://advising.buffalo.edu/dismissal/process_students.php
Question: I’ve been away from UB for more than 1 year, and I’m interested in returning to UB, but I have an “S” checkstop/hold. What should I do?
Answer: You will need to complete a Re-entry Application, which is available on-line at http://admissions.buffalo.edu/apply/reentering.php or from the Undergraduate Admissions Office in 12 Capen Hall. Reentry applications for students who have been academically dismissed are reviewed by the Scholastic Standards Committee. If you are accepted for reentry, your “S” checkstop/hold will be removed. If you are not accepted for reentry, the decision letter you receive will contain additional advice about what you should do.
Question: The only checkstop that I have is a “S” checkstop/hold, but I still can’t register for summer sessions. Why?
Answer: If you’ve been away from UB for more than one semester, you need to reactivate your record with us. If you’re only interested in taking summer sessions, you should follow the Registration Instructions for Non-UB Undergraduate Students at http://src.buffalo.edu/register/summernonubstudent.shtml. If you’d like to take classes during spring and fall semesters, you should follow the reentry process described above.
